Francisco

After having lived in the jungle for 30 years, following the accident happened to him and his travelling friends, Francisco had been saved thanks to a state-of-the-art tracking device. This object, which had been very popular in the last years, had saved a lot of lives. When Francisco flew back home, he noticed that many things had changed. At Rome airport his brother Druso was waiting for him and they went home together. At the front door, Druso put his finger on the photo electric cell and the door clicked open. Francisco asked his brother for a cigarette: unfortunately he hadn't lost this bad habit. After a few months Druso noticed that Francisco wasn't in good health. Druso didn't understand wether his brother hadn't succeeded to adapt to the new life or if he had some physical problem. fOr this reason Druso decided to bring him to the hospital for a check up the doctors found out that Francisco had had a long cancer for years. When Francisco got the news, he had a heart attack (thanks God they were at the hospital) Druso wasn't allarmed because he knew that a new laser device was able to mend a broken heart in a few seconds. Once re-animated, Francisco cooled down thanks to his brother. Druso explained him that for ten years now new-borns'lungs had been cloned and scientists had developed them in hi-tech laboratories to cure future illnesses. Francisco was amazed and thought: "How things have changed!".
Afterwards Francisco was sent to the hospital and after a series of clinical tests, he had his lungs transplanted.
Few days later Francisco recovered and was dismissed. He was surprised for his quick recovery. The medicine had really done many progresses and his brother began to narrate him various innovations. Druso revealed him that the mortality rate in the past years had dropped down and the duration of life had reached 130 years. Besides lungs, all others organs had been cloned except the brain.
There were drawbacks, of course, Francisco told him. The number of suicides had risen as well as the number of people affected by depression or schizophrenia.
The new way of live caused mental illness, and even the antistress band was no good at stopping the spreading of the mental disorder. Francisco was shocked by his brother's words and he went back with his mind to his life in the 2002. It seemed so far away now, he thought with a deep breath.
